After 5 weeks of battling ear and sinus infections...
Around Thursday we were convinced that Alex no longer had a sinus infection. Hurray! Instead, he seemed to be suffering from seasonal allergies and his 2 year molars coming in. He was hurting so badly from the molars that he would scream "Take my teeth out!" Yes, he actually said that. We felt bad for him but we were very encouraged that he no longer had an infection.
Monday morning at the pleasant hour of 5 am Alex woke up screaming at the top of his lungs and was having a very difficult time breathing. (We tried to explain to him that screaming would only make it harder to breathe.) We took him into the pediatrician as soon as they opened. The doctor said Alex most likely has RSV or some other respiratory virus. He sent us to Timpanogos Hospital to get a chest x-ray and lab work to find out exactly what kind of virus he has. The x-ray showed that he has bronchitis which is usually caused by a virus. I will not get the lab results until tomorrow. Anyway, the doctor told us to watch Alex very carefully and let him know if Alex got any worse. We got home from the hospital about 11:30 am, got Alex to sleep and Joseph finally went to work.
At about 1:15 I noticed Alex was wheezing very slightly. I called the doctor and he said to bring Alex in immediately. Joseph had only been at work about an hour when he had to pack up and leave. Alex was examined and just as I suspected, Alex's condition had gotten much worse. He was promptly given a breathing treatment which thankfully helped him a ton. The doctor sent us home with a prescription for 5 days of breathing treatments and a 5 day oral steroid that's used for treating asthma.
Today Alex is breathing much easier. Unfortunately, as promised, Alex is highly irritable thanks to the steroids. He is also in a huge amount of pain from his molars. Why can't we have one problem at a time? (Sigh)

This happened to Lizzy, too - I had to take her to the 24 hour clinic and get her a steroid shot so she could breathe. It was horrible - Jason was out of town at the time, gone hiking with friends, so he couldn't be reached, and I was 8 months pregnant with Rachel. It is true that it seems like bad things always happen all at the same time! Just like this week - my friend and co-worker died (see my blog) and my van broke down the same day, and I lost my phone. We don't have a home phone, so I was stuck with no car and no phone for a couple of days.
